The starting point of the design process was the [Howard Smith Wharves] site.

Both the current conditions on site, as well as the future plans, were taken into consideration.

The Howard Smith Wharves had initially been considered as a site for extensive commercial development (hotels, entertainment facilities, cafes, etc); rejection of such plans by the local community saw the plans scale back commercial development and increase public spaces. The major Brisbane floods in 2011 saw the plans suspended by the State Government.

From this it was decided the Folie should be raised off the ground, and I proposed the idea it could be suspended from the Story Bridge.
